(Richmond, KY) – The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post is investigating the death of a man that allegedly stole a vehicle that had a baby inside. The vehicle was stolen from the Pilot Truck Stop, Wednesday night in Scott County.
The Kentucky State Police was notified that a vehicle with a baby inside was stolen from the Pilot Truck Stop in Scott County, and may be traveling south on I-75.
KSP personnel observed a vehicle matching the description traveling south on I-75, near the 99 mile marker. The vehicle failed to stop when KSP personnel initiated their emergency equipment on the Robert R. Martin Bypass in Richmond. The driver then turned left on Union City Road, right on Dunbar Lane, and left on Four Mile Road, before driving through a metal gate at the end of Box Ankle Road.
The suspect lost control of the vehicle, and struck a tree where the vehicle became inoperable. The suspect fled the scene on foot, leaving the baby in the car. The child was safely removed by KSP personnel, and taken to Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond by EMS for observation.
Multiple police agency assisted the Kentucky State Police with establishing a perimeter around the area. The suspect was located in a nearby wooded area, armed with a gun. The suspect was threatening to take his own life, when Law Enforcement negotiated with the armed suspect in an attempt to get him to surrender. During the negotiation the suspect turned the gun on himself, fatally wounding himself.
Sidney Fee Jr., 35 years old of Berea, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Madison County Coroner.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Lieutenant Chris Steward. KSP was assisted at the scene by Richmond Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County EMS, and the Madison County Coroner.
