HARLAN, KY (Tuesday, February 18, 2025) - Two Clay County juveniles arrested after a vandalism investigation in Harlan County have been picked up by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and transported to a juvenile detention center.
The Clay County juveniles were arrested following a lengthy investigation conducted by the Harlan County Schools Police Department that began on December 20th as a result of extensive vandalism to Harlan County Public Schools buses and athletic facilities which occurred near the James A. Cawood Elementary School.
The arrested juveniles were charged with:
- Criminal mischief first degree
The juveniles have been picked up by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Breathitt County Juvenile Detention Center.
Repairs to the damages in the incident are expected to exceed $5,000.
“We appreciate the cooperation of our community members and our law enforcement partners in Clay County in bringing this case to a resolution,” said Chief Matt Cope. “We must take these incidents seriously and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law,” said Cope.
Due to the suspects’ juvenile status, no additional information can be released.
