LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Nate Bishop arrested Dakota Smith age 27 of London on Monday night July 1, 2024 at approximately 10:43 PM.
The arrest occurred on Old Richmond Road approximately 4 miles north of London while deputies were attempting to serve 2 Laurel District Court bench warrants of arrest on an individual reportedly to be at a residence off Old Richmond Road.
When deputies arrived at the scene the suspect was sitting on the front porch of a residence and upon observing law enforcement, the suspect fled back behind the residence. The suspect ignored Deputies commands to stop and the individual continued to flee jumping a guard rail several times nearby and causing a vehicle traveling along Old Richmond Road to have to abruptly stop to avoid striking the suspect and pursuing deputies.
Upon catching up to the suspect, deputies briefly struggled with the suspect before taking him into custody. One deputy damaged his uniform during the arrest.
Dakota Smith was charged with:
- Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot
- Resisting arrest
- Criminal mischief – third-degree
- Menacing
- Disorderly conduct – second-degree
In addition, this subject was charged on:
- Two Laurel District Court bench warrants of arrest
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
