FRANKFORT, Ky. (January 27, 2025) – On January 18, 2025, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 12 in Frankfort was requested by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred at 2327 Devils Hollow Road in Frankfort. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
The preliminary investigation indicates that deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call at the residence, where they encountered 34-year-old Justin W. Jennings of Frankfort inside the home. Mr. Jennings was in his mother's residence armed with a knife, yelling, and self-injuring himself. Deputies gave verbal commands for Mr. Jennings to drop the knife, and he did not comply.
To protect those inside the residence, FCSO Deputy Stevie Rice discharged his agency-issued firearm, striking Mr. Jennings and resulting in life-threatening injuries to the suspect.
He was transported to Frankfort Regional Medical Center for treatment and remains there. Mr. Jennings was cited by FCSO and is facing charges of:
- Assault 3rd Degree – Police Officer or Probation Officer
- Menacing
