PSA - Programs offered by the Clay County Extension Office for July 2018



Manchester, KY - Clay County Cooperative Extension Service upcoming programs for July, 2018

4-H Painting Class – July 12th at 12:45 pm at the EXCEL building beside McDonalds.  This event is for children and families.  Each family member will be painting their own canvas or kids can paint alone.  This is a great opportunity to explore a new hobby & enjoy family bonding time.  FREE!  Limited spots are available.  Door prizes will be given away.  Kenna Spears will be teaching the painting class for us.  Sponsored by: Clay County Extension Office and the Clay County Family Resource Centers.  You MUST call 598-2789 to register by Monday, July 9th.

4-H Crafty Chefs Workshop will be July 17th – 19th from 1:00 – 2:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office.  This is a great opportunity for youth to have fun, learn new skills and hobbies and meet new friends! For half of the session, participants will learn how to make scones, brownies and cake. For the remainder of the session, youth will have the option to make home environment items and a terrarium! The home environment items include color collage or wastebasket décor and refinishing a simple wood item) and a terrarium!  FREE & open to all youth ages 9-17. Please register by July 12th by calling: 606-598-2789.  (Participants are encouraged to enter items for 4-H Project Day on July 30th from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office.  All projects will be judged during 4-H Project Day and on display to the public on July 31st from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.  Those receiving Grand Champion ribbons will be eligible to enter items for Kentucky State Fair.)

Calling all sewers! Clay County Homemakers are sponsoring 3 Sewing Days to help Bluegrass Hospice provide bibs for their patients.  If you want to participate in this project and help elderly patients, please attend and help us sew.  You have three opportunities to help:  July 20th from 1-3:00 pm; July 24th from 10:00 am—12:00 noon; and August 2nd from 1-3:00 pm.  All will be held at the Extension Office.  We have the pattern, but if you have about a yard of scrap fabric, that would be great!  We will take scrap fabric if you just have some you want to donate.  Call Lora and let her know if you will be attending at 598-2789.

We All Scream for Ice Cream! Come learn how to make ice cream for the summer.  This program is for adults and youth and will be held July 23rd from 1-3:00 pm at the Extension Office.  We will make ice cream using a can or jar and with an ice cream maker.  This program is free and open to the public, but call 598-2789 to register.

Preserving Your Food will be July 24th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office.  Do you have a lot of garden produce?  Come and learn how to preserve it to feed your family this fall and winter.  Call 598-2789 to register.  Free and open to the public.

4-H Birdhouse Project will be on Thursday, July 26th at 1:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. You will be making an up-cycled, painted birdhouse from a milk jug and a wooden, stained birdhouse.  Bring a ½ or 1 gallon milk jug or carton to the class.  All supplies for the wooden, stained birdhouse will be provided. FREE & open to all youth ages 9-17. Please call 598-2789 to register by Monday, July 23rd. 4-H Project Day – Want to show off your talents?  Enter items for 4-H Project Day! Items include photography, crafts, woodworking, foods, sewing, geology and much more!  All youth ages 9-18 are encouraged to enter projects they have created on July 30th from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office.    All projects will be judged and on display to the public on July 31st from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office.  Participants will receive ribbons.  Those receiving Grand Champion will be eligible to enter items for Kentucky State Fair.  Call 598-2789 to receive a packet of ideas and to register!  You can also check out the Kentucky State Fair Catalog at https://4-h.ca.uky.edu/content/state-fair-catalog, to view all categories and rules for entering.
