A Promise Kept by Treasurer Ball: Kentucky Jumps 14 spots to Top-ten in National Transparency Ranking

State Treasurer Allison Ball

FRANKFORT, KY. (Monday, April 30, 2018) — Kentucky’s new transparency website was ranked among the top-ten transparency websites nationally according to a report released Wednesday, Kentucky State Treasurer Allison Ball announced. This marks a significant increase in rank, as the last report of this kind ranked Kentucky 24th nationally.

“This is exciting news for our Commonwealth,” Treasurer Ball said. “When I ran for Treasurer, I advocated for greater transparency in Kentucky and assured Kentuckians that I would be a watchdog on taxpayer dollars. This report is yet another testament to the success of our transparency efforts in Kentucky.”

The U.S. Public Interest Research Group (USPIRG) Education Fund and Frontier Group released the report entitled “Following the Money 2018: How the 50 States Rate in Providing Online Access to Government Spending Data.” The report ranks state transparency websites based on each website’s content and user-friendliness.

Kentucky’s new transparency website, www.transparency.ky.gov, is a user-friendly site that allows Kentuckians to view Kentucky’s executive and judicial spending, salaries, contracts, and property. It was launched in April 2017 in a joint effort by Treasurer Allison Ball and the Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet.

“The new transparency website has been an important step towards bringing Kentuckians easier and greater access to government spending, but we are not done yet,” Treasurer Ball said. “I am pursuing ways to bring even more spending information online for Kentuckians to view. I am excited to see Kentucky ranked in the top ten, but I believe we have more to do.”

The transparency website allows Kentuckians to view how their tax dollars are being spent in Frankfort, which helps them more easily join conversations on taxing and spending in our state, Treasurer Ball said.
