Dr. David Eli Ison, 69, a resident of Corinth, KY, passed away unexpectedly Friday January 31, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, KY. Born August 22, 1950 in Garrett, KY, he was the son of the late Claude Bernard and Stachia Gallagher Ison.
On April 18, 2004 he was united in marriage to the former Tracy York., she survives. He was a 1968 graduate of London High School in Laurel County. “Doc” as he was affectionately known and loved, was currently President and Owner of Ouchless Dental Services in Dry Ridge, KY.
He completed his undergraduate work at the University of the Cumberlands with a degree in Chemistry and went on to Transyvania University where he obtained another undergraduate degree in Biology. He received his Masters in Social Work from the University of Kentucky and went on to receive his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry at University of Kentucky in 1983. In 1995 he was as Adjunct Professor at UK.
Over the years, he served on the Medical Staff at a number of medical facilities, including: Manchester Memorial Hospital, Frankfort Regional, New Horizon’s Medical Center in Owenton. He worked in Special Needs Dentistry and Hospital Dentistry, while also serving on the surgical staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical System. He was a Certified Coast Guard Captain, flying planes and held a private pilot license. In spite of his humble beginning in Letcher County, he always gave God all the glory for his achievements and success in life. He was musically talented, using many of his gifts to advance the ministry of his church, which he loved and served so beautifully, New Columbus Methodist Church.
He will be sorely missed by his wife, Tracy, whom he loved so dearly; two sons: David Eli Ison II of Pikeville, KY, Cole Bryant Greene of Corinth, KY; four daughters: Annie (Robert) Reed of Corinth, KY, Yana (Gary) Ison of Lexington, KY, Talia Weinberg of Georgetown, KY, Emily Ison of Dry Ridge, along with four grandchildren: Ashlyn Reed, Wyatt Reed, Levi Greene, Leryn Weinberg and a community of friends, co-workers and associates. He was preceded in death by a brother: Bernie Ison.
Visitation will be Tuesday February 4, 2020 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Stanley Funeral Homes, Williamstown, KY.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday February 5 at 1 p.m. at Stanley Funeral Homes – Williamstown, with Rev. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be in New Columbus Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Jeff Stormer – CRNA, Kurt Winklehaus – CRNA, Dan Moore – CRNA, Bruce Corey – Cousin, Forrest Hunter – Brother in Christ, Officer Daniel Tracy, Alonzo Perkins, James French, John Coleman; Honorary Pallbearers: Dr. Ryan Moon, Dr. Victor Lawson, Malcolm Carrico and Michael York.
