*UPDATE* Teenager dead after being hit by a train in Laurel County

Laurel County, Ky. - Update at 8:46 P.M. April-18-15:

Deputy Jackson reports that the 17 year old male who was struck by the train had been in the vicinity with his younger brother and their 29 year old cousin planning to camp overnight, and that the cousin and younger brother had left the 17 year old behind to walk back to the cousin's residence nearby to get items to build a fire.

The accident apparently occurred while they were gone. The train operator advised he saw the male subject on the tracks at the last moment, and attempted an emergency stop, however the train struck the male subject.

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Shawn Jackson along with Deputy Andrew Lawson are investigating a train versus pedestrian death that occurred on the CSX railroad track in the Lily community approximately 7 miles south of London early Saturday morning April 18, 2015 at approximately 3:06 A.M.

Deputies report that apparently a 17-year-old male resident of Laurel County was struck by a north bound CSX train, and received fatal injuries.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Laurel County Coroner's Office.

Assisting at the scene was KSP Trooper Chris Saunders, KSP/CVE Officer Mike Hamblin, Lily Volunteer Fire Department, London Laurel Rescue Squad, Laurel County DPS, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, CSX Police, and the Laurel County Coroner's Office.

Investigation is continuing.
