MPD OFFICER RESPONDS TO BURGLARY IN PROGRESS CALL IN MANCHESTER, KY, FINDS TWO MEN WITH FATAL GUNSHOT WOUNDS

MANCHESTER, KY - Manchester Police Chief Jeff Couch is reporting that on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at around 4:20 am, MPD Officer Root responded to a "Burglary in Progress" call in the Pennington Hill area of Manchester.

When Officer Root arrived at the scene, he found 2 male subjects shot. The two male subjects had apparently forced their way into the residence in order to steal firearms.

A male juvenile that was inside the home observed the men and noticing they were armed, shot both subjects before escaping the residence through a window.

Both male subjects died from the gunshot wounds.

Detective Logan Gay with the Kentucky State Police was contacted and is in charge of the investigation.

The two men who were shot were later identified as:

  • Roger D. Smith, age 44, of McKee, KY was transported to AdventHealth Manchester by Clay County EMS but succumbed to his injuries.
  • Jeffrey M. Allen, age 51, of Manchester, KY who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
