Driver Forcibly Removed from Stopped Vehicle after High Speed Pursuit in Bell Co., KY

MIDDLESBORO, KY (December 15, 2024) -  According to the Bell County Ky. Sheriff's Department: On Friday, December 13, 2024, Bell County K-9 Deputy Keith Fuson observed a red Chevrolet truck with no registration plate while traveling on Highway 190 near Pineville.

The deputy activated his emergency equipment as the driver, later identified as 25-year-old Ryan Williams Griffin of Pineville, KY failed to pull over at the intersection of Highway 25E.

Griffin then turned southbound refusing to pull over exhibiting no regard for the other drivers on the roadway.

The pursuit reached 96 mph as the deputy followed Griffin into Middlesboro. Mutual aid was then requested from Middlesboro Police Department. Responding to the call was Officer Jacob Quillen who blocked the roadway near the Cumberland Avenue intersection bringing the pursuit to an end.

Due to Griffin refusing to exit the vehicle, he had to be forcibly removed.

Also responding to the scene was Sgt. Jody Risner who administered standard field sobriety tests which determined Griffin was under the influence. The suspect was also found not to have an operator’s license. Griffin was arrested and transported to the Bell County Detention Center,

Ryan Griffin was charged with:

  • SPEEDING 26 MPH OR > SPEED LIMIT
  • FLEEING OR EVADING POLICE, 1ST DEGREE
  • WANTON ENDANGERMENT-1ST DEGREE-POLICE OFFICER
  • RECKLESS DRIVING
  • RESISTING ARREST
  • NO OPERATORS-MOPED LICENSE
  • NO REGISTRATION PLATES
  • OPER MTR VEHICLE U/INFL SUBST (189A.010(1C) - 1ST

This individual was lodged the Bell County Detention Center where he is still housed at the time of this publishing.
