MELBER, KY – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) is reporting that two Graves County residents have been arrested by KSP Post 1 troopers after an investigation into the death of a young child.
On Monday, June 17th, 2024, KSP troopers responded to a residence on KY-849 in Graves County for the report of a two-year-old child who was unresponsive after being found in a backyard pool. Troopers and other first responders attempted life-saving measures, however, the child was pronounced deceased after being transported to an area hospital.
A joint investigation between KSP detectives and the Department of Community Based Services (DCBS) was conducted into the circumstances of the child’s death, as well as the conditions of other children who resided in the home.
On Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 the facts of the investigation were presented to the Graves County Grand Jury.
Nathaniel Purcell, age 27, of Melber, KY, the father of the deceased child and his girlfriend, Courtney Amacher, age 26, of Melber, KY, who also resides in the home, were both indicted for multiple offenses stemming from the investigation.
On Friday, October 11th, 2024 both individuals were arrested in accordance with the indictment warrants.
Nathaniel Purcell was charged with:
- Manslaughter 2nd Degree
- Seven counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
- Four counts of Criminal Abuse 2nd Degree – Child 12 or Under
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Courtney Amacher was charged with:
- Manslaughter 2nd Degree
- Seven counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
- Four counts of Criminal Abuse 2nd Degree – Child 12 or Under
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
