ONGOING INVESTIGATION BY KSP POST 3, BOWLING GREEN INTO PURSUIT AND OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

BOWLING GREEN, KY – On Friday May 24th 2024 at 10:09 p.m. Troopers with the Kentucky State Police were conducting a traffic safety checkpoint in Hart County.

Troopers at the checkpoint encountered a white 2015 Mercedes GL3, operated by Anthony Manning (28) of Hopkinsville, KY and an unknown passenger.

Mr. Manning fled from the traffic safety checkpoint onto U.S. 31E, then onto KY 70, before entering Interstate-65 southbound. Speeds reached 130 MPH and Mr. Manning turned off his vehicle’s lights in an attempt to elude police. Mr. Manning continued southbound on Interstate 65 before being spotted traveling northbound on Interstate 165. Troopers lost visual contact with the fleeing vehicle and subsequently terminated the vehicle pursuit.

Later that evening KSP Post 3 was contacted by Butler County Dispatch and advised that Deputies with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department had located the vehicle at a gas station in Morgantown. Mr. Manning and his passenger fled on foot. The unknown passenger brandished a firearm. The Butler County Deputy discharged his firearm but then lost sight of the subjects in a heavily wooded area.

Butler County Deputies did not sustain any injuries and there is no evidence to suggest that the suspects sustained injuries. Multiple law enforcement units responded to the area and conducted a thorough search of the area but were unable to locate Mr. Manning or his passenger.

Mr. Manning has an active warrant for his arrest in reference to this incident; he is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. The investigation into the pursuit and the officer involved shooting remains ongoing by KSP Post 3.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the Commonwealth as requested by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered. Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.
