LONDON, KY (February 15, 2024) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is pleased to report that: Today, February 15th is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, and the Laurel County Sheriff's Office would like to highlight our SROs and their dedication to keeping our schools and students safe.
SROs Bridge the Gap Between Youth and Law Enforcement, Please Join Us in Celebrating Our School Resource Officers Today
SROs create lasting, influential relationships with students and staff.
Our SROs serve as protectors, educators, mentors and law enforcement officers each and every day.
Laurel Deputy Brad Mink serves as a school resource officer for East Bernstadt Independent School, and Deputy Charlie Johnson and Deputy Marcus Stigall serve in the Laurel County School System.

In addition, Laurel County School Police headed by Chief Dan Smoot also serve daily.
London City Police and Chief Chuck Johnson serve in a support capacity as well.
Sheriff Root stated that Laurel County is truly blessed to have this level of cooperation between law enforcement partners and support and protection for our children and school staff.
