Fatal Collision on Kentucky 11 in Lee County

BEATTYVILLE, KY – On Friday, June 16, 2023, just before 6:30 p.m. Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, received a call of a single vehicle collision with possible entrapment on KY-11 in Lee County.

The initial investigation indicates a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, operated by Joshua Phillips, 21 years old of Beattyville, was traveling south on Zoe Post Office Road in Lee County when he drove off an embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn onto its side on KY-11 North.

As a result of the collision, Justin Hughes, 27 years old of Booneville, a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to Clark Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Kaedyn Turner, 18 years old of Beattyville, a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Michael Combs, 21 years old of Beattyville, a passenger in the vehicle, was fatally injured and pronounced deceased on scene by Lee County Coroner Brian Wilson. An autopsy will be performed at the State Medical Examiners' office in Frankfort.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Trooper Tyler Holt. He was assisted on the scene by KSP Post 7 personnel, Powell County EMS, Lee County EMS, Breathitt County EMS, Air Evac, Lee County Fire Department, and Lee County Coroners Office.
