KENTUCKY STATE POLICE MOREHEAD POST 8 TRAFFIC CHECKPOINT ANNOUNCEMENTS

MOREHEAD, KY (July 7, 2022) – The Kentucky State Police, Post 8 Morehead on Wednesday July 6, 2022 announced the final traffic and criminal activity report for June 2022. 

During June, Post 8 personnel issued 1,272 total citations. 

Of those citations:

  • 31 were for DUI
  • 227 were for Speeding,
  • 229 for No Seat Belt
  • 2 were for Child Restraint.

In addition, there were 65 Courtesy Notices issued. 

Post 8 also investigated:

  • 62 Traffic Collisions
  • 547 Complaints
  • Opened 43 Criminal Cases
  • Made 160 Criminal Arrests for the month of June

Additionally, Captain John Dowdy, Post Commander of the Kentucky State Police at Morehead, announces that Troopers of the Morehead Post will be conducting Safety Checkpoints in addition to Moving Patrols throughout the Post 8 area during the entire month of July, as well as the remainder of the year. 

Motorists are urged to be cautious and obey reduced speeds through road construction zones.

This concentrated enforcement effort will utilize Troopers and Detectives assigned to and working the Morehead Post area. 

Members of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) will also be utilized. 

They will focus on enforcing violations of:

  • Speeding
  • No Seat Belt
  • Child Restraint
  • Impaired Driving Laws
  • Texting While Driving
  • Other violations of the Traffic Laws of Kentucky
