LONDON, KY - The London Police Department is reporting that: On Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020, Officer Dillon Blair arrested Vernon Denney Jr. on an arrest warrant stemming from an investigation of the stolen London-Laurel County Rescue Squad Humvee.
At approximately 2:20 A.M., London-Laurel County 911 received a complaint of a military Humvee recklessly driving near Economy Inn on North Main Street. Officers arrived in the area of Economy Inn to discover the Hummer had already fled.
After determining the Humvee was no longer in the area of Economy Inn, Officers observed that the Rescue Squad's Humvee (used to advertise the haunted house hosted by the Rescue Squad) was missing from where last parked, at Carter Street and South Main Street.
Officers returned to Economy Inn to review surveillance footage from cameras at the business to see if the cameras captured the stolen vehicle. In the video, officers observed the Rescue Squad's Humvee as well as a male subject who exited the Humvee briefly at Economy Inn. Ofc. Blair recognized the male subject and identified him as Vernon Denney Jr.
Officers had dispatch notify surrounding agencies to be on the lookout for the stolen Humvee. At approximately 7:27 a.m., dispatch was notified by Pongo Fire Dept. that the stolen vehicle had been located in the Pongo area of Rockcastle County and requested to notify London Police. The Humvee was found on its side from a rollover, off the roadway.
After investigating the theft, Ofc. Blair obtained the arrest warrant for Mr. Denney, who was located in Mt. Vernon by Rockcastle County Deputies.
Vernon Denney Jr. was charged with:
- Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $10,000 (Auto)
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
