FONDE, KY (May 24,2020) – The Kentucky State Police, Harlan Post was called just after 8:00 PM on May 23, 2020 by the Bell County Sheriff's Department in reference to an officer involved shooting on KY 74 in the Fonde community of Bell County.
The initial investigation indicates that a Bell County Deputy Sheriff was responding to a call when he observed a male individual operating an ATV on the roadway.
The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop.
The operator of the ATV failed to stop and continued traveling west. During the incident, the operator brandished a firearm, causing the deputy to discharge his weapon and fatally striking the individual.
The Bell County Deputy Coroner, Jason Steele responded and pronounced the individual deceased at the scene.
The body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
KSP will release more information, as it becomes available.
The case remains under investigation by KSP. Also assisting at the scene was Bell County Coroner, Bell County Sherriff's Department and Bell County EMS.
UPDATE
The Kentucky State Police has released the name of the individual involved in the officer involved shooting in Bell County as Gary Partin, 57 years old of Frakes, KY. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
