Bimble man charged with Impersonating a Peace Officer

HINKLE, KY (October 22, 2019) - The Knox County Sheriff's Office is reporting that:  On Sunday, October 20, 2019 Knox County Deputy Bobby Jones was dispatched to Paynes Creek Road in Hinkle where a man had reportedly pulled a gun on two men and shot into the ground.

After arriving at the location and interviewing the two men, Deputy Jones learned that James Campbell had told them he was a deputy at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, while holding the men at gun point and threatening to kill them before letting them leave.

They also stated that Campbell was armed with a rifle and two handguns and was driving a dark Chevy truck.Deputy Jones located and stopped the vehicle on Paynes Creek Road.

After observing a rifle and two handguns as described by the victims, Deputy Jones arrested James Russell Campbell age 47 of Bimble, KY.

Campbell was charged with:

  • Impersonating a Peace Officer
  • Two counts of Wanton Endangerment-1st Degree
  • Two counts of Unlawful Imprisonment-1st Degre
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence
  • Failure to Produce Insurance Card
  • No Registration Receipt

.James Campbell was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
