Pursuit from Tennessee concludes in Laurel County, KY

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Jake Miller along with Deputy Brad Mink, Deputy Taylor McDaniel, Deputy Keith Dinsmore, and Deputy Daniel Grigsby assisted by Kentucky State Police, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Jellico Tennessee Police Department arrested Abbie R. Kent age 35 of Lowden, Tennessee on Saturday afternoon June 23, 2018 at approximately 2:26 PM.

The arrest occurred off Boone Avenue, approximately 11 miles south of London after this subject was driving a reported stolen gold colored 2014 Toyota Highlander (reportedly stolen out of Tennessee) where Tennessee Highway Patrol had attempted to stop the vehicle in Tennessee however the vehicle failed to stop traveling into Kentucky and into Laurel County on I– 75 onto US 25E, and finally traveled onto Boone Avenue driving down the CSX railroad tracks and until she got stuck.

The female driver jumped out of the vehicle where she was chased by Laurel County deputies to a river where she jumped in and started swimming up the river.

Deputies Miller, McDaniel, and Mink jumped into the river and were able to take the female subject into custody following a brief scuffle. All three deputies had damage to their uniforms.

The driver was determined to be under the influence and stated that she had been doing heroin.

Abbie R. Kent was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle; receiving stolen property under $10,000; fleeing or evading police – first-degree – on foot; three counts of wanton endangerment – second-degree – police officer is victim; criminal mischief – third-degree; and other offenses and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
