Receiving Stolen Property arrest Saturday in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Detective Kyle Gray arrested Robert Lee Campbell age 30 of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Saturday morning June 9, 2018 at approximately 7:24 AM.

The arrest occurred on I–75 approximately 9 miles north of London after Detective Gray responded to a complaint that a motorist was broken down approximately 9 miles north of London in the southbound lane of I–75. When Detective Gray arrived at the scene he located a gray colored Jeep Grand Cherokee unoccupied and conducted a check on the vehicle and learned that it was a reported stolen vehicle from Chicago Illinois investigated by Chicago Police Department.

While awaiting a tow truck to come to the vehicle to impound it, Robert Lee Campbell came walking from the nearby exit waving his hands and yelling "did you come to help me start the vehicle?".

This individual gave Detective Gray a false name several times during the investigation, but finally stated that he was Robert Lee Campbell and that he was getting someone else to drive him to his mom's funeral to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

No other individuals were located anywhere in the vicinity of the stolen vehicle. Robert Lee Campbell was charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000; operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; giving officer false identifying information; and numerous other violations and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
