Driver charged with Manslaughter following investigation of fatal traffic crash in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Gary Mehler along with Deputy Shannon Jones investigated a single vehicle fatal traffic crash which occurred on Keavy Road approximately 9 miles south of London early Sunday morning February 4, 2018 at approximately 4:19 AM.

The investigating deputies report that apparently a 1991 blue Chevrolet pickup was traveling southbound on Keavy Road when it dropped off the shoulder and sideswiped a telephone pole on the passenger side of the vehicle coming to rest just past the telephone pole off the roadway.

  • The driver was identified as: Kayla D. Brock age 28 of Wallins, Ky– transported by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to Baptist Healthcare hospital Corbin for  treatment of injuries
  • The passenger was identified as Daniel S. Witt age 25 of Keavy transported Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to Baptist Healthcare hospital Corbin – pronounced deceased there.
  • Assisting at the scene of the crash was: Keavy Volunteer Fire Department, London Laurel Rescue Squad, and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County. Also assisting on the investigation was Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley.

    On Monday 2-5-2018, following a continuing investigation, the Laurel County Sheriff's Office charged Kayla D. Brock age 28 of Wallins, Ky. with Manslaughter, 2nd degree, operating  a motor vehicle under the influence -1st offense, driving too fast for road conditions, failure to wear seat belts, and operating on suspended or revoked operators license.  She is lodged in the Whitley County Detention Facility.

    Laurel Sheriff Detective Kyle Gray is assisting on the continuing investigation where the driver was charged with Manslaughter 2nd degree.
