London, Ky. (January 28, 2018) – On Sunday, January 28, 2018 at approximately 3:00 PM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London was contacted by Laurel County Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance on an officer-involved shooting that had taken place at a residence on KY HWY 229 in Laurel County.
KSP Detectives arrived on the scene and determined at approximately 2:46 PM, three Laurel County Deputy Sheriff’s responded to a complaint about a male subject later identified as Anthony S. McDaniel, 45, of London shooting a firearm in a residential neighborhood. Deputies located McDaniel and gave him several loud verbal commands to drop the firearm. McDaniel refused and pointed his firearm in the direction of the deputies and began shooting at them striking their patrol vehicles several times. The Deputies took cover behind their patrol vehicles and returned gunfire striking McDaniel.
Laurel County EMS was notified and responded to the scene. McDaniel was later pronounced dead at the scene by the Laurel County Coroner’s Office.
No responding Officers were injured during the incident.
KSP Critical Incident Response Team is continuing the investigation.
