Ellen Bays was born on January 25, 1938 in Garrard, Kentucky and returned to glory on August 9, 2024 in Berea, Kentucky. Ellen and Rev. Everett were united in holy matrimony in 1960. Six children, Mary (Christoper Amaechi), Dora (Russell Grigsby), Ben (Libby) Bays, Ricky (Lauren) Bays, Dorothy (Mandy) Bays, and Billy (Joni)Bays were born to this blessed union of 24 years.
She was predeceased by her parents, Tole Smith and Mary Katherine (McDonald), siblings Irene, Lorene, Pearl, HR, Grover, Gladys, and Leamon, her husband Everett, and youngest son Billy. She was predeceased by Dewey Couch and Bennie Holland.
Ellen, a humble servant, was a testimony of pure unconditional love. She was one of thirteen children and helped to care for each of her siblings. This prepared her for the happiest years of her life raising her family in a Christian home.
She loved gardening and caring for others.
She is survived by her siblings: Cleo, Earl, Evelyn, Amos, and Jewel; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, special forever daughter-in-law, Fran, a host of nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends.
She attended the Brutus Baptist Church and the Berea Evangelistic Church.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 14th at Britton Funeral Home, with Jeff Osborne and Jerry Rice officiating. Burial will follow at the Bays Family Cemetery on Big Bullskin.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 14th at Britton Funeral Home.
