Reuben Curtis (R.C.) Walker was born on April 29th, 1934 in London, Kentucky to William Russell and Ruth Johnson Walker. He passed away on April 16th, 2020 at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 15 days.
R.C. started his career in the funeral service at the age of 16. He worked as a Funeral Director at the House Funeral Home, Bowling-Walker Funeral Home, House & Rawlings Funeral Home and the Laurel Funeral Home until 1989.
In 1958, R.C. joined the London City Fire Department and served as a fire fighter.
In 1962, he established the Laurel County Fire Department where he served as “Chief” until 1979. In 1994, R.C. rejoined the London Fire Department as a Fire Fighter and the London-Laurel County Rescue Squad where he served as Deputy Chief.
He served the community as Laurel County Coroner for 8 years and Deputy Jailer for 1 year and Laurel County Jailer for 4 years.
R.C. served in the United States Army in the Kentucky National Guard for a period of 8 years and was discharged in 1960.
He is survived by one sister, Phyllis Riley (Dave) of Indiana and was preceded in death by three brothers, Merle Walker of Houston, TX, Dale Walker of Morehead, KY and Jesse “Bud” Walker of London, KY. He is also survived by three sons, Edward M. Walker, Steve Walker (Staci) and Stewart Walker, all of London, KY and one daughter, Deborah Walker Greenwald (Bart) of Louisville, Kentucky. R.C. leaves a total of 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren along with a host of family and friends to mourn his passing.
A private graveside for R.C. Walker will be conducted by Bowling Funeral Home.
