Clay County man airlifted after shooting incident

(LONDON, KY.) – On Sunday, April 03, 2016, at approximately 2:30 PM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a call about a single-vehicle traffic collision on KY HWY 66 in the Oneida community of Clay County.

Upon arrival, Trooper Jacob Roberts learned through an investigation that the operator of the vehicle, Johnny Davidson, 36, of Oneida had suffered a gunshot wound to the back of his neck.

Further investigation revealed that prior to the shooting, Davidson was parked at the Oneida car wash off HWY 66 when two males pulled into the parking lot in a red Dodge Durango, exited their vehicle and began to assault Davidson.

The victim then fled the area in his vehicle. The two suspects followed the victim, ramming his vehicle. After turning onto HWY 66, a handgun was produced and several shots were fired at the victim’s vehicle. Davidson was struck one time in the neck causing him to crash.

Davidson was airlifted from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he was last listed in critical but stable condition.

Two suspects have been identified, but no arrests have been made at this time.

Trooper Roberts is continuing the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by Troopers from Post 11, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and Clay County EMS.
