(LONDON, KY.) – On Thursday, March 03, 2016, at approximately 2:50 PM, KSP Detective Nick Metcalf was traveling westbound on the Hal Rogers Parkway when he observed a 2016 KIA Sorento driving in a reckless manner running other motorists off the roadway. Detective Metcalf activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The operator later identified as Douglas S. Jackson, 46, of Dayton, Ohio accelerated and continued traveling westbound on the Parkway.
A vehicle pursuit was initiated and Jackson continued traveling westbound for approximately (2) miles where he then struck another motorist traveling in the same direction. Jackson continued traveling westbound for approximately (2) more miles and turned onto Morentown Road, lost control of his vehicle and traveled over an embankment. Jackson and his passenger later identified as John W. Storer, 26, of Dayton, Ohio then jumped from the vehicle and began to flee on foot. After a short foot pursuit Troopers apprehended both men.
Upon further investigation, Troopers discovered the vehicle had been stolen from Dayton, Ohio. Both men were arrested at the scene.
Jackson was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center and charged with: Receiving Stolen Property $10,000.00 or More, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (Police Officer), Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle), Operating Motor Vehicle Under the Influence (DUI) and numerous other traffic charges.
Storer was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center and charged with: Receiving Stolen Property $10,000.00 or More, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Public Intoxication (Controlled Substance), Resisting Arrest and Assault 3rd Degree (Police Officer).
Troopers Nick Metcalf, Michelle Lang and Millard Root are continuing the investigation. They were assisted by Troopers from Post 11.
