Shoplifting and Fleeing Police in Laurel County

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Tommy Houston arrested two individuals on Monday night July 27, 2015 at approximately 7:15 PM.

The arrests occurred at Walmart near Corbin in southern Laurel County after Walmart's loss prevention team attempted to detain 2 individuals.

When Deputy Houston arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation with Walmart's loss prevention team, they determined that two male subjects had allegedly been swapping merchandise back and forth inside the store in an attempt to conceal the merchandise.

When approached by loss prevention, the two male subjects fled out the store to a blue colored Chevrolet Cavalier that had a female and a small child as passengers in the vehicle.

Deputy Houston, who was nearby, was able to intercept the suspect vehicle and activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop attempting to flee, running a stop sign at Walmart, then turning the wrong way into a turning lane at a nearby gas station where Deputy Houston was able to get the vehicle to stop and took the two male subjects into custody without incident.

Arrested was the driver of the vehicle identified as: Kenneth Adams age 22 of Maple Grove Rd., London charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting; fleeing or evading police – second-degree – motor vehicle; disregarding a stop sign; reckless driving; and wanton endangerment – second-degree.

Also arrested was the male passenger identified as: James Johnson age 22 of Reams Ln., London charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting. Total value of the theft was $51.75.

Both subjects were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
