Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Sgt. Robbie Grimes along with Deputy Rick Cloyd arrested Brandy Messer age 22 of Carfax Mane, Artemus, Ky on Thursday afternoon April 16, 2015 at approximately 2:56 P.M.
The arrest occurred at Walmart's parking lot near Corbin in southern Laurel County after Walmart's loss prevention team allegedly observed this subject attempting to unlawfully remove unpaid merchandise from the store.
This subject attempted to flee from loss prevention officers, and when captured by Sheriff's deputies had gotten into a vehicle that she had flagged down for a ride (apparently after her original ride had left her).
Sheriff's deputies just happened to be in the immediate vicinity on an unrelated complaint when dispatched to this shoplifting complaint.
Brandy Messer was charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting and was lodged in the Laurel County detention Center.
