DRIVER ESCAPES, ONE ARREST, CASH/DRUG SEIZURE AFTER PURSUIT ON INTERSTATE 75 IN SEKY

Pursuit —northern Laurel into Rockcastle County

LONDON, KY — Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's drug interdiction unit Justin Taylor arrested one individual and is seeking another subject following a pursuit which occurred on I–75 originating at KY 909 approximately 10 miles north of London.

Drug Interdiction unit Taylor attempted a traffic stop on a white Honda Accord on Ky 909. The suspect vehicle then attempted to flee, onto the northbound ramp for I–75. Interdiction unit Taylor activated his emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop and the suspect vehicle pulled onto the shoulder. As interdiction unit Taylor exited his patrol vehicle to walk up to the suspect vehicle, the suspect vehicle fled the scene northbound on I–75 traveling at speeds near 110 MPH on wet rain slick roadways recklessly and traveled approximately 5 miles before driving off the shoulder over a slight embankment where the driver fled on foot.

A female passenger in the vehicle was immediately taken into custody. KSP trooper Brian Maupin who arrived at the scene with his K-9 to assist on the search for the male driver, but he was not located.

Also assisting at the scene was Laurel Sheriff's Captain Chris Edwards and numerous Laurel County Sheriff's deputies and drug detectives along with Rockcastle County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Sam Brock.

The female subject arrested was identified as: Taylor Sierra Markwell age 29 of Bond St., Richmond, KY.

Taylor Sierra Markwell was charged with:

• Theft of identity of another without consent
• Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – second offense – methamphetamine
• Possession of drug paraphernalia
• Giving officer false identifying information

In addition, this subject was charged on a Kentucky Parole Board parole violation warrant charging:

• Absconding parole supervision

And, failure to complete treatment for substance abuse regarding a conviction in Madison Circuit Court on charges of:

• Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamin
• Tampering with physical evidence
• Bail jumping – first-degree 

Laurel Sheriff's drug interdiction unit Justin Taylor has obtained a warrant for the driver Identified as: Brandon Lee Woods age 39 of Prison Connector, Sandy Hook, Ky.

Charges on the warrant include:

fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle; driving on a DUI suspended license – first offense; driving more than 26 mph over the speed limit; reckless driving; following another vehicle too closely; driving too fast for traffic conditions; possession of a controlled substance – second-degree; fleeing or evading police – first-degree – on foot.

In addition, it has been determined that this individual was wanted on a parole violation warrant.

In addition, this subject has an outstanding Kentucky parole board parole violation warrant charging absconding parole supervision; failure to complete halfway house program regarding a conviction in Madison Circuit Court on charges of stalking – first-degree; burglary – second-degree.
