PORTLAND WOMAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH NOV. 2024 HOMICIDE OUTSIDE OF TURNER, OREGON

MARION COUNTY, OR (February 26th, 2025) - A Portland woman has been arrested in connection with a homicide that occurred in November 2024 in Turner, Oregon.

Shanika Strickland, 32, was taken into custody yesterday evening in Gresham and has been charged with:

  • 2nd Degree Murder
  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon

She is scheduled for arraignment today, February 26, 2025, at 2:30 PM at the Marion County Court Annex. It has been determined that the victim and suspect were known to each other.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Thompson family during this difficult time.

We also wish to express our gratitude to the Gresham Police Department K-9 team, The United States Marshals Service for their assistance in the arrest, and the Marion County Sheriff's Detectives for their dedicated work on this case.

Marion County Detectives Investigating Suspicious Death
On Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, at approximately 11:34 a.m., deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office were called to the 4700 Block of Delaney Rd SE, just outside of Turner, after a body was discovered. Detectives identified the victim as Jada Thompson, 26 years old. Detectives are investigating this case as a possible homicide. There have not been any arrests in this case and there is no danger to the community. No other information will be released at this time.
