Col. Michael Austin Collins-J.M., a proud Kentuckian, has transformed his life through determination, education, and commitment to community service. Raised between Kentucky and various states, he reflects on how his home state’s values shaped his success against all odds.
"Those 'Education Pays' signs around Kentucky mean more than just financial," says Michael. "It's an opportunity at life, a chance to contribute to the community and to provide goodwill wherever we may end up."
Education and Military Service
A graduate of Eastern Kentucky University’s Justice & Safety program, Michael's journey culminated in earning his "Juris Masters" degree from Liberty Law School in 2024. His military service in the Kentucky National Guard, where he earned the Kentucky Commendation Ribbon for his role as a Fire Support Specialist (COLT 13F2), showcases the state’s potential. "That alone proves Kentucky has more to offer than some may think. We must actively engage in our community and pursue opportunities—they don’t just show up," he reflects.
Achievements and Honors
Before his advanced degrees, Michael was honored with the Kentucky Colonelcy in 2022 by Governor Andy Beshear, acknowledging his community contributions. A letter from then-Governor Steve Beshear in 2013 further highlighted his achievements.
Community Engagement and Leadership
Despite growing up in poverty with negative influences, Michael's perseverance, guided by mentors, broke through barriers. "There are so many wonderful people close to our lives if we just reach out or accept the guidance. Volunteering or seeking mentorship can lead to a lifetime of progress," he notes. His success opened doors to roles like Executive Protection Agent in Florida, credits to his Kentucky education.

Michael’s story inspires with his message: "Don’t ever underestimate yourself. Negative voices in your life are simply the thoughts of those who don’t know how to get where you want to go. Think beyond what others say is possible." Kentucky's legacy of perseverance reflects in his journey.
