PSA: Clay County Cooperative Extension Service programs for September, 2019

MANCHESTER, KY (September 1, 2019) - Clay County Cooperative Extension Service upcoming programs for September, 2019.

♦Independent 4-H Projects – participants are encouraged to work on projects independently throughout the year and have them ready to be entered in the 2020 4-H Projects Day competition. Projects include: Forestry, Geology, Entomology, Consumer and Financial Educations, Arts and Crafts, Home Environment, Woodworking, Electricity, Horticulture, Needlework, Foods and Photography. ♦Paper Flowers—September 5th at 6:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office.   Have you seen those beautiful paper flowers that have been at weddings and showers?  Come learn how to make them at this program.  Call 598-2789 to register so we will have enough supplies.  Free and open to the public.

♦4-H Chefs in Training will be on September 10th from 4:30-5:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. FREE & open to all youth ages 8-14. This is a great opportunity for youth to have fun, learn new skills and meet new friends. We will be making granola bars. Please call 598-2789 to register, by September 6th.

♦Eat, Laugh & Craft program will be September 17th at Big Creek School at 5:00 pm.  If you live in the Big Creek area and want to attend, call the Extension Office at 598-2789 to register.  Free and open to the public.

♦Clay County Cattlemen’s Association fall meeting will be on Thursday evening, September 19, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the EXCEL Building.  Mr. Doug Wilson, from the Natural Resources and Conservation Service, will be with us to discuss help offered to cattle producers.  Wayne, Jody and the gang are frying fish for the group.  So PLEASE CALL the Extension Office at 598-2789 by Tuesday the 17th to register so we make sure that we fry enough fish for everyone.

♦Diabetes Demonstration is September 23rd from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the Extension Office.  Tammy Pennington from the Health Department and Lora will be presenting the program.  Lora will doing a demonstration on a diabetic dish.  Preparing foods you can eat and using the correct serving size for the diabetic can make a huge difference in your self-care.  If you plan to attend, please call the Extension Office at 598-2789 and register.  Free and open to the public.

♦Pineapple Pizazz Party will be September 24th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office. Have questions about homemakers?  Want to join? Want to know what we do and how you can become a Clay County Homemaker?  Come learn all about homemakers and all things pineapple.  “Pineapple, the symbol of welcome!”  We will have several pineapple dishes to sample.  Shine and grow with homemakers.  Grow in skills, community and leadership.  Shine as you represent Clay County and Kentucky Homemakers.  Please call 598-2789 to register so we will have enough supplies.  Free and open to the public. 

♦Cooking by the Calendar will be September 26th at 12:00 pm at the Extension Office.  We will sample and learn about September’s recipes from the calendar.  It will be a wonderful evening with others that enjoy learning about food.  Call us at 598-2789 to register.  Free and open to the public.

♦4-H Corn Hole Design will be on September 26th at 4:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office. Its football time in the bluegrass! Come and create your own mini corn hole set! This 4-H project gives you the chance to be creative and have fun! FREE & open to all youth ages 9-19. Limited spots are available! You MUST call 598-2789 to register by September 24th!

♦The Clay County Beekeepers Association will have their next meeting on Thursday, September 26th at 6:00 pm at the EXCEL Building.  They will elect officers and prepare for the 2020 honey season.

♦Our next 4-H Teen Club meeting will be on September 30th at 5:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office.

This club is open to middle school aged and high school aged students interested in developing leadership skills and enjoy working to better the community and 4-H!  This club is a good way to meet new people, attend leadership events, become a camp counselor and help your community!  Call Alissa at 598-2789 for more information on joining the 4-H Teen Club.
