DOUBLE FATAL CRASH ON HIGHWAY 97 IN KLAMATH COUNTY, OREGON

KLAMATH COUNTY, OROn Friday, November 1, 2024, Oregon State Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 97 near milepost 228 in Klamath County. 

OSP NEW LOGO175The preliminary investigation indicated a white Cascadia Freightliner, operated by Gurvinder Singh (32) of Stockton (CA), was traveling northbound when the operator lost control of the vehicle due to icy conditions. The Freightliner crossed into the southbound lane then jack knifed causing the vehicles tractor to collide with the trailer. 

A southbound black Subaru WRX, operated by Leonides Jimenez Mendoza (24) unknown residence, went under the Freightliner severely damaging the vehicle. 

The operator of the Subaru (Mendoza) and passenger, Humberta Hernandez Hernandez (43) unknown residence, were declared deceased at the scene.  

The highway was impacted for approximately six hours during the on-scene investigation by OSP’s Collision Reconstruction Unit.  

OSP was assisted by Chiloquin Fire District and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
