Laurel County Sheriff John Root Announces Deputy Daniel Reed's Graduation from the Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) in Richmond, Kentucky

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root proudly announces the graduation of Deputy Daniel Reed from the Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT), Police Academy class #548 on Thursday, June 13th, 2024. The graduation was held at First Baptist Church in Richmond, Kentucky. Richmond is the home of the DOCJT Academy.

LSO logo BLACKandGOLD John Root 200The DOC JT provides entry-level and advanced individual training for approximately 9000 law enforcement personnel annually. The 20 week, 800 hour law enforcement basic training course is mandatory for all Kentucky law enforcement officers who are required to comply with police officers professional standards act of 1998.

DOCJT provides basic training for city and county police officers, Sheriff's deputies, University police, and airport police throughout the state.

The graduating officers represent the successful completion of a highly structured, comprehensive curriculum.

Major training areas included:

  • Patrol procedures
  • Physical training
  • Vehicle operations
  • Defensive tactics
  • Criminal law
  • Traffic and DUI
  • Firearms
  • Criminal investigations
  • Cultural awareness
  • Bias related crimes
  • Tactical responses to crisis situations.

As a result, each officer is better prepared to meet the ever-increasing demands placed on today's law enforcement officers.

Deputy Daniel Reed received his graduation certificate, and received an award for being a Squad Leader. He also received the distinguished award for the most improved in training in Physical Fitness and Defensive Tactics! Deputy Reed has prior experience as a Court Security Officer, and a Bailiff at the sheriff’s office. Daniel is a U.S. Army veteran having four years experience as a combat engineer. His mother is Janice Biggs and grandmother Betty Edwards both of Madison County. His son is Elijah Reed of Whitley County.
