CAPTURED: SUSPECT THAT FLED AFTER ASSAULTING A KSP TROOPER FOLLOWING A VEHICLE PURSUIT IN NELSON AND MARION CO., KENTUCKY

RAYWICK, KY - The Kentucky State Police (KSP) reports that on Friday, June 7, 2024 at approximately 12:10 A.M. EST, a KSP Trooper attempted to perform a traffic stop on a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox on Clarkstown Road in Nelson County for a traffic violation. 

When the Trooper activated his emergency equipment the vehicle did not stop and a pursuit ensued.  The pursuit continued onto Sulphur Lick Road in Marion County where it concluded when the road turned into a dead end. 

Upon the vehicle pursuit ending, the operator exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. 

After a short foot pursuit, the Trooper was able to catch up to the suspect.  The suspect then assaulted the Trooper and fled from the immediate area. 

The suspect has was identified as Dustin M. Thompson, age 31 of New Hope, KY.  An arrest warrant was obtained for Mr. Thompson and troopers and other law enforcement officers remained in the area searching for him.

Mr. Thompson was later located and captured. The arrest warrant was served on him and he was lodged in the in Marion County Detention Center in Lebanon, KY on Friday afternoon June 7, 2024.

Dustin Mark Thompson is charged with:

  • STRANGULATION 1ST DEGREE
  • ASSAULT, 1ST DEGREE - POLICE OFFICER
  • DISARMING A PEACE OFFICER
  • TBUT OR DISP - FIREARM

Mr. Thompson remains lodged in the Marion County Detention Center on a $250,000.00 CASH bond with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 8:30 AM.

The Trooper has been treated and released from the hospital.

The case remains under investigation by Detective Zach Scott.  Detective Scott was assisted by other KSP Troopers and law enforcement officers.
