FATAL COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 70 IN HOPKINS COUNTY, KENTUCKY

MADISONVILLE, KY – According to the Kentucky State Police (KSP), on May 30, 2024, at approximately 4:59 p.m. (CT), the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department requested KSP Post 2 to investigate a fatal collision on KY 70 near Madisonville.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Jacob C. Adams, 29, of Dawson Springs, KY was operating a 2009 International Dump Truck eastbound on KY 70. Justin R. Hilt, 38, of Dawson Springs, KY was operating a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta westbound on KY 70.

At approximately 3 miles west of Madisonville, the Volkswagen Jetta attempted to pass another vehicle traveling westbound. During this maneuver, the Volkswagen Jetta collided head-on with the dump truck.

Justin R. Hilt, 38, of Dawson Springs Ky was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner.

The investigation is ongoing by Accident Reconstructionist Technician Trooper Hunter Combs. KSP was assisted on scene by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department, Madisonville Fire Department, Richland Fire Department, Kentucky Emergency Management, and the Hopkins County coroner.
