FATAL WRONG-WAY COLLISION ON INTERSTATE 65 IN HARDIN COUNTY, KENTUCKY CLAIMS LIFE OF TENNESSEE MAN

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY  – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) is reporting the investigation of a two-vehicle fatal collision on Interstate 65 near Elizabethtown on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 around 10:59 p.m. ET.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 2016 Lexus being operated by 50-year-old Jeffrey Simonton of Clarksville, TN was traveling north on Interstate 65 in the southbound lanes. 

A 2019 Volvo truck and semi-trailer operated by 46-year-old Alexsandar Bojov of Palm Beach Gardens, FL was traveling south on Interstate 65, Bojov was unable to avoid Simonton when both vehicles hit head on.  Simonton was ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner. 

Simonton and Bojov were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.  Bojov was transported to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Senior Trooper T. K. Lynch investigated the collision, and was assisted by members of the Kentucky State Police Post 4, Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabethtown Police Department, Elizabethtown Fire Department, Hardin County EMS, Hardin County Coroner, Hardin County Emergency Management and Glendale Fire Department.
