LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Shift Sgt. Brett Reeves arrested Toby Gray age 42 of Hart Rd., Corbin on Wednesday morning January 24, 2024 at approximately 11:54 AM.
The arrest occurred in a business parking lot off U.S. 25W approximately 13 miles South of London following an investigation conducted by Sgt. Reeves regarding the theft of tools from a truck that was parked in a parking lot just south of London early Tuesday morning January 23, 2024.
Surveillance video was obtained from the business and it showed a male subject pulling into the parking lot of the business and taking tools from the victim’s vehicle.
The surveillance photos were sent to local media and also posted on the Laurel County Sheriff's Office Facebook page and in less than an hour information was developed on the suspect believed to be Toby Gray.
Sgt. Reeves attempted to locate the suspect and on Wednesday morning developed information on the whereabouts of the suspect reportedly driving a white Nissan Sentra. Sgt. Reeves located the suspect vehicle in a business parking lot in southern Laurel County and observed the driver enter the vehicle.
A traffic stop by Sgt. Reeves and Corbin P.D. was conducted and the driver was identified as Toby Gray. This subject was found in possession of suspected Methamphetamine and Marijuana.
In addition, Sgt. Reeves noted that property believed to have been stolen was in plain view in the front and back seats of the vehicle. Sheriff's investigators have recovered numerous power tools and toolsets believed to be stolen from the Tri-County area.
Toby Gray was charged with:
- Theft by unlawful taking $1000 or more but under $10,000
- Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
- Possession of Marijuana.
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
