Shooting Victim Survives, Police Track, Capture & Arrest the Alleged Shooter, Suspected Narcotics and Stolen Items Located at Scene of the Incident in London, KY

LONDON, KY - According to London PD on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at approximately 7:52 P.M., Officers from the London Police Department received a call that a Cody Deaton age 25 of London, KY had been shot at Betty Jane Apartments and been brought to St. Joseph Hospital.

London PD logo 200Officers arrived on scene and received information that the shooter, a Brian Goforth age 20 of London, KY, had fled behind the residence. Officers located Goforth’s tracks and began tracking him through the snow, when another call was received through the London-Laurel Dispatch Center, that a male on Mullins Avenue was attempting to break into a car.

Officers were then able to pick up the tracks again and followed them behind residences, businesses and through the woods leading to Wendy’s on S. Laurel Road. There, officers were able to locate Goforth and take him into custody without further incident.

Detectives completed and executed a search warrant on the residence where the incident occurred. Detectives were able to locate what was believed to be illegal narcotics, stolen items (including a firearm), and other drug-related items.

Brian Goforth was placed under arrest and charged with:

  • Assault 1st Degree
  • Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
  • Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm)
  • Receiving Stolen Property
  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Offense
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

The victim, Cody Deaton was later released from the hospital with minor, non-life-threatening wounds.

Currently, the investigation is still ongoing.

The London Police Department was assisted on scene by the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.
