FRANKFORT, KY – Rewa Zakharia, the Executive Director of Attorney General Daniel Cameron's Special Prosecutions Unit, was recognized by the Prosecutors Advisory Council for her excellent work.
At the annual Kentucky Prosecutors Conference held in Lexington, Zakharia was presented with the Ian Sonego Award of Excellence.
"Rewa is a phenomenal attorney and an invaluable member of my leadership team," said Attorney General Cameron. "I'm proud to work alongside her, and I'm grateful for her service to the Commonwealth of Kentucky."
A former Fayette County Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney, Zakharia joined Attorney General Cameron's team in 2019, and was promoted to Executive Director in May of 2022. In this role, she oversees the prosecution of criminal cases, assists state prosecutors, and manages the investigation and prosecution of suspected election law violations, environmental crimes, and ethics law violations.
The Council established the Ian Sonego Award of Excellence in 2016 to honor the contributions of Ian Sonego, a former prosecutor, criminal appellate attorney, and true champion for Kentucky prosecutors. Attorney General Cameron, as chairman of the Prosecutors Advisory Council, and Council members selected Zakharia for the prestigious award because of her perseverance in the pursuit of fairness, integrity in the pursuit of criminal justice, and demonstrated respect for the rule of law.
Hosted by the Prosecutors Advisory Council, the Kentucky Prosecutors Conference serves as an annual opportunity for state prosecutors to receive specialized training and recognition for their public service.
