FRANKFORT, KY – Attorney General Daniel Cameron has filed a lawsuit against BG Treeman, LLC, (BG Treeman) and its principal owner and operator, Benjamin Lamb, for violating the Kentucky Consumer Protection Act.
The lawsuit alleges the company engaged in deceptive business practices and price gouging in the wake of the December 2021 tornado that struck Western Kentucky.
"The pursuit of money isn't illegal, but preying on vulnerable disaster victims to turn a quick buck is," said Attorney General Cameron. "As Kentuckians, we look out for each other, and I filed this lawsuit to ensure folks are protected against abusive practices."
According to Attorney General Cameron's lawsuit, BG Treeman charged excessive prices for tree removal services, falsified invoices, and threatened to place liens on storm victims' homes when they refused to pay the company's grossly inflated prices. The lawsuit is seeking civil penalties and restitution for affected customers.
This is Attorney General Cameron's latest effort to defend victims of natural disasters from deceptive business practices and price gouging.
