LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective Taylor McDaniel conducted a traffic stop on Old Crab Orchard Road with 2 occupants in a 2013 Hyundai on Wednesday night September 21st, 2022.
During the stop, Detective McDaniel determined the passenger, Trevor Burkhart had out standing warrants. Burkhart resisted arrest by struggling with Detective McDaniel.
The driver, James Burkhart, drove off with Detective McDaniel still struggling with the suspect, and Detective McDaniel trying to exit the vehicle. The suspects were not located.
On Thursday morning, September 22nd, 2022 Laurel deputies arrested James Burkhart (right), age 64 of East Bernstadt near East Bernstadt on Old KY 30 charging him with numerous felonies.
James Burkart was charged with:
- Fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle
- Fleeing or evading police – first-degree – on foot
- Wanton endangerment – first-degree – police officer is victim
- Resisting arrest.
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center

Assisting on the arrest was: Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Maj. Chuck Johnson, Capt. Robbie Grimes, Lieut. Chris Edwards, Deputy Hunter Disney, Deputy Allen Turner, and Detective Taylor McDaniel.
