LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root has issued a traffic alert via social media and would like to remind motorists that this weekend is the East 80 yard sale, and heavy traffic, slowing and stopping, can be expected along KY 80 (East Laurel Road) the entire weekend up through late Monday.
Beginning on Thursday Sept. 1st through Sunday Sept. 4th, the yard sale spans 55 miles and will go through Somerset, London, and Manchester, KY along Highway 80. Drivers should be extra attentive if they need to travel through that area. Sheriff's deputies will be out in full force to assist motorists.
In addition, Laurel County Sheriff John Root wants to help keep Laurel County families safe to enjoy the upcoming Labor Day Weekend.
Sheriff Root suggests that drivers remember that buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. See that everyone in your vehicle buckles up their seat belts. During a crash, being buckled up helps keep you safe and secure in your vehicle, and from being thrown out. Seat belts are the best defense against impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers.
Laurel County deputies will also be looking for intoxicated drivers on the roadways and will remove and arrest these drivers. Sheriff Root fully supports the current statewide campaign that Law Enforcement agencies statewide are now participating in called "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over". This safety initiative runs through Monday night midnight, September 5th.
Sheriff Root reminds citizens this Labor Day Holiday to drive defensively, and always expect the unexpected. Have a happy and safe weekend!
