KSP CHARGES TEENAGER WITH MURDER IN DEATH OF FATHER

Shelbyville, KY – The Kentucky State Police, Frankfort Post was contacted on April 15, 2020 just after 5:00 AM by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a man that was found deceased at a residence on Hempridge Road in Shelby County.

KSP Post 12 investigators responded to the scene, and identified the man as Bret Augustine, age 48 of Shelbyville, KY. The initial investigation indicates Brett Augustine died as a result of gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Shelby County Coroner. He has been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville for an autopsy.

David Augustine, 18 years old of Shelbyville, was later located in Shelby County. Augustine failed to stop, and lead law enforcement on a short vehicle pursuit. Following the pursuit he was taken into custody and arrested for the shooting death of Bret Augustine.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, David Augustine is lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center charged with:

  • Murder
  • Fleeing or Evading Police 1st (Motor Vehicle)
  • Fleeing or Evading Police 1st (On Foot)
  • Resisting Arrest, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree – Police Officer
  • Other traffic offenses

The investigation remains ongoing by Post 12 Detective Keith Howard. He was assisted by additional Post 12 Detectives, KSP Critical Incident Response Team, the Shelby County Coroner, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Shelbyville Police Department, and Shelby County E.M.S.

According to a 36WTVQ report, the victim was David Augustine's father.
