LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Tommy Houston along with Deputy Justin Taylor and Deputy James Fox arrested James Otto Belt age 41 of East Bernstadt early Sunday morning March 22, 2020 at approximately 4:34 AM.
The arrest occurred on KY 30 approximately 3 miles north of London after deputies were dispatched to a non-injury traffic crash there.
Upon arrival at the scene deputies located a gray colored Chevrolet Silverado pickup in the ditch with the driver passed out in a running vehicle with his foot on the brake.
During investigation deputies determined that apparently the vehicle had been traveling southbound when it crossed over the northbound side striking an embankment and appeared that the driver had attempted to free the vehicle but could not.
An investigation was conducted on the driver who was determined to be under the influence.
James Otto Belt was charged with:
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
- Failure to wear seatbelts
- Careless driving
- Failure to produce insurance card
- Excessive window tint
- Failure to give oncoming vehicle one half of the Highway
- Failure to signal
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
