Pursuit through I-75 construction area in Laurel County

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Tommy Houston along with Deputy Joey Robinson arrested Jamaru O. Clay age 19 of Richmond, KY early Saturday morning February 15, 2020 at approximately 2:28 AM.

The arrest occurred on I-75 approximately 10 miles South of London after deputies observed a green colored Pontiac traveling southbound weaving across two lanes of traffic.

When deputies activated their emergency equipment this vehicle failed to stop and was pursued approximately 3 miles through the construction area there before the vehicle finally stopped just past exit 29.

The driver refused to exit the vehicle and had to be removed from the vehicle where deputies noted they detected the odor of alcoholic beverages and Marijuana emitting from the driver. The driver was determined to be under the influence.

In addition, during arrest this individual was found in possession of OxyContin, suspected Xanax bars, and Marijuana.

Jamaru O. Clay was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – third offense
  • Resisting arrest
  • Fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle
  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to wear seatbelts
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – first offense
  • Trafficking in Marijuana
  • Numerous other violations

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
