Laurel COUNTY, KY (November 13, 2019) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's K-9 Deputy Jake Miller along with Deputy Joey Robinson, Sgt. Brett Reeves, Capt. Kevin Berry, Detective Bryon Lawson and Bailiff Daniel Reed arrested Elmo Carroll age 35 of North Highway 1223, Corbin on Wednesday afternoon November 13, 2019 at approximately 12:28 PM.
The arrest occurred off KY 1223, approximately 9 miles South of London while deputies were conducting an investigation after a female subject showed up at Walmart in southern Laurel County requesting assistance.
Walmart notified the Laurel County Sheriff's office who responded to the scene and learned that allegedly she had been held against her will for a week and had been repeatedly assaulted by a male subject.
Deputies noted that the female victim had blackened eyes and marks all over her.
Deputies traveled to the location where the male subject was located off KY 1223 and discovered that the male suspect had locked himself in a room.
Once deputies made contact with the suspect, a brief struggle ensued and the suspect was taken into custody charged with:
- Unlawful imprisonment – second-degree
- Assault – 4th degree
- Resisting arrest
In addition, this subject was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging:
- Failure to appear in court for a jury trial on charges of unlawful imprisonment – second-degree
- Assault – 4th degree
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
