Clay County, Ky. (Sept. 4, 2019) - The City Of Manchester Fire Department is reporting that: At 2:13 PM on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 3, 2019 Manchester & Lockard’s Creek Fire Units were dispatched by Clay County 911 to a motor vehicle accident on the Hal Rogers Parkway at the 24 mile marker with confirmed entrapment and one vehicle possibly on fire.
Upon arrival of Chief Charles Weaver he advised that the vehicle was confirmed to be on fire and there was one entrapment.
With help from bystanders and Sergeant Jeremy Gabbard with the Clay County Sheriffs Office they was able to contain the small fire and prevent it from spreading.
As the first apparatus arriving being Engine 7, Squad 5, & Rescue 51 their personnel quickly pulled a jump line from the bumper and got water ready in case the fire was to reignite.
Personnel instantly went to work to provide the best pre-hospital care possible.
Units extricated the victim who was then turned over to the Clay County Ambulance Service & Air Evac LifeTeam who transported him to AdventHealth Manchester.
Our department would like to give a big thanks to everyone who assisted on the scene & a special thanks to:
- Manchester City Police Chief Chris Fultz and Clay County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Jeremy Gabbard for going out of their way to help our agency with extrication of the subject.
The Kentucky State Police will be investigating the accident.
Emergency personnel remained on scene for 8 hours for traffic control until the roadway was finally reopened around 10:30 PM. Great job by all departments and agencies involved.
Also we would like to say thank you to the bystanders that didn’t even know the first responders but offered Water, snacks, Etc.
The City Of Manchester would like to offer our condolences to the family of the deceased.
Our agency will not give out names or post photos of the accident scene out of respect for the family.
