Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Maj. Chuck Johnson along with Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards, Sgt. Greg Poynter, Detective Richard Dalrymple, Deputy Allen Turner, Deputy Travis Napier, and Deputy Brent France arrested Mickey Wayne Grubb age 18 of Highway 1223, Corbin on Thursday afternoon August 15, 2019 at approximately 3:22 PM.
The arrest occurred off KY 1223 approximately 10 miles South of London after Major Johnson observed a silver colored Pontiac G6 on Hopkins Cemetery Road at McClure Bridge Road traveling through that intersection at a high rate of speed and failing to stop at a stop sign.
Maj. Johnson activated his emergency equipment however the vehicle failed to stop continuing several miles nearly striking two individuals standing along the roadway. The suspect vehicle then lost control on Barron Road striking an embankment where it became disabled bursting into flames and the suspect fled on foot.
Following a foot chase by Sheriff's deputies, the suspect was taken into custody. Several deputies destroyed their uniforms following the foot chase through a thicket before catching the suspect.
In addition, this subject had earlier fled from KSP Trooper Michelle Lang on Laurel Whitley Road, approximately 6 miles South of London.
This individual had allegedly nearly struck Trooper Lang when she attempted a traffic stop observing the silver Pontiac G6 driving in a reckless manner. As Trooper Lang attempted to exit her patrol car, this individual nearly struck her and fled and was located a short time later when Laurel Sheriff’s Major Chuck Johnson observed the vehicle run a stop sign at a high rate of speed in the vicinity.
Laurel County Sheriff's deputies charged Mickey Wayne Grubb with fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle; fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot; operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; two counts of wanton endangerment – first-degree; wanton endangerment – first-degree – police officer is victim; reckless driving; failure to wear seatbelts; improper equipment; criminal mischief – second-degree. In addition, Deputy Travis Napier charged Grubb with receiving stolen property under $10,000 after it was determined that he had allegedly stolen a 2006 white colored Chevrolet Silverado off Byble Road between August 8, 2019 and August 13, 2019.
In addition, KSP Trooper Lang charged Mickey Wayne Grubb with reckless driving; improper turning; operating on suspended or revoked operator's license; fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle; wanton endangerment – first-degree – police officer is victim; improper equipment.
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
