Man accused of assaulting & injuring 2 Laurel Co. Sheriff's deputies during arrest

Laurel County, Ky. -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Landry Collett along with Deputy Taylor McDaniel arrested John Sullivan age 28 of Hursey, Michigan on Thursday morning March 14, 2019 at approximately 9:27 AM.

The arrest occurred after Deputy Collett conducted a traffic stop on a black colored Chevrolet Blazer on I-75 approximately 1 mile north of London.The vehicle was pulling a trailer with no lights on the trailer and the trailer was swerving all over the roadway.

Deputy Collett suspected the driver to be under the influence during the stop and while trying to conduct an investigation this subject began screaming, cursing and creating a disturbance on the roadside there.

Upon arrest, this subject began struggling with Deputy Collett and resisting out onto the traveled portion of the interstate placing Deputy Collett in extreme danger. Deputy Taylor McDaniel then arrived at the scene also struggling with the suspect.

The suspect kicked Deputy Collett in the head and head butted Deputy McDaniel causing injury to both officers, however both deputies were able to subdue the suspect taking him into custody.

John Sullivan was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
  • Careless driving
  • No taillamps
  • Resisting arrest
  • Menacing
  • Two counts of assault – third-degree – police officer is victim
  • Disorderly conduct – second-degree
  • Wanton endangerment – first-degree – police officer is victim
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
